Telethon

The Girton College 2024 Telethon ran from 3-21 April 2024. 

During this time a group of current students contacted Girtonians across the globe to reconnect, network and raise funds. They enjoyed connecting with you all, thank you for participating!

Meet the 2024 team

Antonia

Antonia

Antonia is a postgraduate student in Surgery, who loves playing the cello and is a member of the College orchestra. She serves on the Girton College MCR committee as general secretary and volunteers for the student mental health charity Student Minds. She is the president of the Cambridge Neurological Society and President and founder of the Cambridge Robotic Surgery Society. Finally, she is member of the Cambridge University Golf team.

Elodie

Elodie

Elodie is a second year AMES (Chinese) student, who enjoys all aspects of college life. Besides running the college art society, she has also represented the college in rowing and lacrosse. More related to her degree and outside of college, she is a member of the Cambridge University China Forum and has recently started to learn Korean.

 

Emma

Emma

Emma is a first year History and Spanish student, who loves challenging herself to try new things. Since joining the boat club, she loves spending time on the river training with her friends. She also likes to spend her time reading and learning new languages as well as learning how to cook (badly)!

 

 

Isla

Isla

Isla is a second year Geography student. Interested in sustainability, this year she is the ‘Diversity and Sustainability Officer’ on the Girton 2024 Spring Ball Committee. In her free time, she enjoys singing with the Girton Chapel Choir and also going running in the countryside around Cambridge.


 

Kayla

Kayla

Kayla is a second year Biological Natural Sciences student. She is an avid theatre and music fan, participating in a university wide acapella society, as well as her college drama society. In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar and learning piano, alongside making Airfix model planes and sketching. 

 

 

Luca

Luca

Luca is a second year MML student studying French, Italian and Catalan. As part of his degree, he enjoys studying translation and linguistics. Outside of academics he is a keen basketball player for the university club, of which he is co-president. Luca is also co-president of Girton MML society which aims to promote access to foreign languages and cultures throughout the college.

 

Maddy

Maddy

Maddy is a second year MML student, currently studying German and Russian. She has been very active within the college community, being on committees for societies such as the Feminist society and MML society. She is also part of the graphics team for the Spring Ball. Outside of her studies, Maddy loves all things art and cooking!

 

Rosie

Rosie

Rosie is a second year history student, with a love for rugby and equal hatred for any injuries that come with it. She enjoys writing cartoon strips and painting, some of which have featured in Varsity, much to her surprise and slight embarrassment. The rest of her time is spent trying to fix ongoing problems with her bike.

 

Saranka

Saranka

Saranka is a first year HSPS student, having already completed a year at Girton as a foundation year student, she is involved with several different student news publications. She has enjoyed being an interviews writer for the Tab and ‘The Cambridge Student’ and has spent Lent term writing for the Arts section of Varsity. She also enjoys the theatre scene at Cambridge having attended renditions of Anthony and Cleopatra by the Marlowe society and is keen to be more involved going forward.

Solomon

Solomon

Solomon is a second year geographer at Girton. The captain of the Girton football team, you can always find him in the social hub talking, watching or breathing football. Beyond football, Solomon is a member of the college drama society GADS, what he lacks in talent he makes up for in bundles of enthusiasm. Additionally, Solomon's passion for rowing means he often spends much of his time on the river when in Cambridge.

Tim

Tim

Tim is a second year BioNatsci studying evolution, biochemistry and psychology. He noviced with the Boat Club last year and rowed in the college men’s first eight for the Lents and Mays bumps and is now the fundraising officer for the boat club. When not rowing, he enjoys weightlifting, walks around college and indulging his casual interest in food history.
