Girton College Chapel Choir to release fifth album celebrating composer Marc’Antonio Ingegneri

Marc’Antonio Ingegneri Volume Five: Motets for the Liturgical Year album cover

Girton College Chapel Choir’s latest album based on the compositions of Marc’Antonio Ingegneri is now available to pre-order. 'Marc’Antonio Ingegneri Volume Five: Motets for the Liturgical Year' will be released on Friday 2 May 2025.

This album marks the Choir's fifth annual collection of recordings showcasing the works of the renowned sixteenth-century composer. The record features contributions from the historic Brass ensemble, Western Wyndes, led by Girton Musician-in-Residence Jeremy West.

The Choir’s first and fourth volumes, released in 2020 and 2024, reached the Top 10 in the Global Classical Charts.

Ingegneri is known as the teacher of Claudio Monteverdi, who is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and Baroque periods of music history. Yet, Dr Gareth Wilson, Director of the Girton College Chapel Choir, believes that Ingegneri’s work deserves more recognition:

“Marc’Antonio Ingegneri is famous for having taught Claudio Monteverdi, probably the most celebrated composer of the early seventeenth century. But his own music is incredible and deserves to be better known. It’s also known that he was Director of Music at Cremona Cathedral whose bishop was a leading light in promoting liturgical reform at the Council of Trent in the sixteenth century. Ingegneri was at the forefront of the implementing of these reforms and may therefore be more important to the history of music than has yet been recognised.”

The album is available to pre-order now on Amazon UK or International, or via Presto Music.
