Research themes
My research pertains to nineteenth century British sociocultural history with emphasis on material culture, history of emotions, gender, and sensory history approaches. My PhD dissertation concerned courtship and nuptial culture in nineteenth century England, recovering the experience of engagement for individuals and the representation of engagement in broader culture.
In my capacity as the Researcher for Girton College’s Legacies of Enslavement Committee I have focused on individual and kinship biographical research within the context of transatlantic enslavement both in the Southern United States and in Britain.
Responsibilities
I currently supervise undergraduate students for 07: Modern Britain and Ireland 1750 to the Present, O9: North America, Central America and the Caribbean since 1775, and T12: British Worlds 1750-1919.
I also lecture for MSt in History: Sources, Methods and Research Skills.
Other
Before starting my PhD at the University of Cambridge, I graduated with a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2015) and a MA in Museum Studies from Newcastle University (2016).
