Girton College Chapel Choir Tour 2021

Girton Choir at Cremona Cathedral
The choir at Cremona Cathedral, where Ingegneri was Director of Music

Girton College Chapel Choir is in concert at various venues in South-East England

The Music of Marc’Antonio Ingegneri (c. 1535/36–92)

The Cremonese composer Marc’Antonio Ingegneri (c. 1535/36–92) is chiefly remembered as the teacher of Claudio Monteverdi. For well-nigh 500 years, his own achievements were left sitting in the shadows. Our Director of Chapel Music has, however, begun to shine a light on this rarely heard work. Accompanied by the Historic Brass of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Girton Choir's pioneering performances and recordings of his music reveal Ingegneri to have been one of the masters of his age, writing music of breathtaking richness and beauty.

You can hear some of Ingegneri’s music on the choir’s latest, widely acclaimed recording Marc’Antonio Ingegneri: Missa Laudate Pueri Dominum. However, the repertoire of the new tour includes many newly researched, freshly edited pieces which will be sung and played this month for the first time in nearly 450 years. Programme highlight include the Missa Voce Mea and the polyphonic motets for double-choir.
