Gir-ten
Girton’s resident brass ensemble (directed by Jeremy West) presents a varied programme of original works and arrangements for brass dectet interspersed with solos and small-group items.
The programme, as is traditional in the world of brass, includes some fine transcriptions of core classical repertoire: a fragment of Wagner’s Lohengrin (Elsa’s Procession), an extract from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, maybe a bit of Brahms, and definitely a 10-part arrangement by Rachel Armitage of Schumann's haunting 'Träumerei'. Expect, as well, a light-hearted encounter with the cat, Kraken, a heel-clicking Bolero, a smidgen of trad jazz, and a hair-raising stomp through Sullivan's Imperial March.
